CTE Certification by Exam

Educators who hold a current valid classroom teaching certificate and required degree may add Marketing, Health Science, and Trades & Industrial Education with verified work experience and current licensure (when required) by completing the CTE Certification by Exam process.

Education Requirements & Content Area Proficiency

Each certification area has specific education requirements and methods in which candidates are required to demonstrate their content area proficiency. Select the program from the list below to view specific requirements and the process of applying.

Marketing 6-12

A marketing education certification may be added by exam to a valid classroom teaching certificate with verified work experience.

 

Content Area Proficiency and Certification-Related Licensure/Work Experience:
  • Current valid Texas classroom teaching certificate
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years of full-time wage-earning experience in one or more marketing occupations
Special Application Instructions:
  1. Visit Region 13’s E-Campus to submit the $155 credential review fee. (Workshop ID is FA2248986)
    • Note: You will need to create and/or login into your E-Campus account to complete this step. Instructions can be found at the bottom of this page.
  2. Complete the Statement of Qualifications (SOQ)
    • Eligible military experience may be used in lieu of wage-earning experience. You will need to include forms DD-2586 and DD-214 with your SOQ.
    • Rules for certificates requiring work experience and preparation are found in the Texas Administrative Code, TAC §233.14.
  3. Submit the following documents directly to ECP at ECP@esc13.txed.net:
      • A copy of your current Texas classroom teaching certificate
      • A completed Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) form with appropriate work experience – no need to include classroom teaching experience. Please include at least the month/date for each employment as well as details/skills.
      • A copy of your transcript showing Bachelor’s Degree conferred
    1. Pending you meet these qualifications you will be enrolled in the Marketing content test prep course that is a self-guided, online course. Once you finish the course you will receive test approval for the Marketing content test. Once successful test results are in your TEA educator account you will log into your TEAL account and pay to add the certification to your certificate.

    Health Science 6-12

    A health science certification may be added by exam to a valid classroom teaching certificate with verified work experience and current licensure, certification or registration by a nationally recognized accrediting agency as a health professions practitioner.

     

    Content Area Proficiency and Certification-Related Licensure/Work Experience:
    • Current valid Texas classroom teaching certificate
    • Associate’s degree
    • Two years of full-time wage-earning work experience as a health professions practitioner in a field that is nationally recognized by an accrediting agency utilizing a license/certification in bullet four
    • Current licensure, certification, or registration by a nationally recognized accrediting agency as a health professions practitioner

Once you finish the course you will receive test approval for the Health Science content test. Once successful test results are in your TEA educator account you will log into your TEAL account and pay to add the certification to your certificate.

    Trade and Industrial Education 6-12

    A trade and industrial education certification may be added by exam to a valid classroom teaching certificate with verified work experience and current licensure, certification, or registration by a state or nationally recognized accrediting agency in any approved occupations for the classes you will be teaching.

     

    Content Area Proficiency and Certification-Related Licensure/Work Experience:
    • Current valid Texas classroom teaching certificate
    • Hold a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree then two years of full-time wage-earning work experience within the past ten years
    • Non-Degreed then five years of full-time wage-earning work experience within the past ten years
    • Current licensure, certification, or registration by a nationally recognized accrediting agency based on a recognized test or measurement
      • OR Pass the appropriate National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) assessment if licensure, certification, or registration is not based on a recognized test or measurement

    2. Complete the Statement of Qualifications (SOQ)
      • Eligible military experience may be used in lieu of wage-earning experience. You will need to include forms DD-2586 and DD-214 with your SOQ.

        • OR A copy of your National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) assessment scores if licensure, certification, or registration is not based on a recognized test or measurement
      • A copy of transcript showing degree conferred or diploma
    4. Pending you meet these qualifications we will issue you test approval for the Trades & Industrial Education (TIE) content test. Once successful test results are in your TEA educator account you will log into your TEAL account and pay to add the certification to your certificate.

    E-Campus Registration

    To access E-Campus:

    1. Please visit: https://ecampus.esc13.net/login.html
    2. If you have a current account in E-Campus, you can use your current login information to access it. If you do not have a current login, you will select create a new account.
    3. Once you are logged in, you will search for the workshop ID (listed above under Special Application Instructions) and once it is displayed you will click register.
    4. Follow the prompts to submit payment.
