Elementary Teacher Certification Program (In-person)

The Elementary Teacher Certification program will be accepting applicants August 25, 2025 – February 23, 2026. This program has rolling admissions in which candidates may begin coursework upon acceptance. This program is for aspiring educators in the Austin area.

Orientation
Candidates will complete an online, self-paced orientation upon meeting admission requirements.

Cohort Launch
Candidates will attend an Elementary Cohort Launch via Zoom, selected from the following dates:

  • September 22

Secondary Teacher Certification Program (In-person)

The Secondary Teacher Certification program will be accepting applicants August 25, 2025 – February 27, 2026, in four admission waves. This program is for aspiring educators in the Austin area.

Live Online and Balanced Hybrid Programs

The application for the upcoming cohorts will open September 15, 2025; these include Elementary (online), Secondary (online), Career and Technical Education (CTE) cohorts. These programs have rolling admissions in which candidates may begin coursework upon acceptance. These programs are for aspiring educators across the state and in the Austin-area.

Program Timeline – Candidates admitted prior to July 6th, 2026

Part 1 

Orientation: online, self-paced course to be completed upon admission and payment of registration fee   

Part 2  

Content Test Prep: online, self-paced content prep course(s) accessible upon completion of Orientation  

Content Testing: approval to register for Content Exam upon completion of Content Prep course and practice test, if applicable  

Field Based Experience: combination of classroom observation, video observation, and classroom experience, if applicable, due prior to start of Internship   

Pre-Service Training: online, self-paced coursework accessible Spring 2026; due August 9th   

Part 3

In-Service Training: combination of online, self-paced coursework and live classes, September 2026 through May 2027  

  • CTE and Secondary candidates within the Region 13 service area have the option to attend classes in person or via Zoom. All others will attend live classes via Zoom.  

Internship: begins on first instructional day of teaching assignment, if all requirements have been met  

  • Requirements include applicable Content Testing based on certification area, Field Based Experience, and Pre-Service training coursework  

Recommendation for Standard Certificate: upon completion of all testing, coursework, and Internship requirements; no sooner than June 2027  

Program Extension, if needed  

If all certification requirements are not met by the end of the designated program year, a program extension will be required.   

Program Timeline – Candidates admitted July 6th, 2026 or later

Part 1    

Orientation: online, self-paced course to be completed upon admission and payment of registration fee   

Part 2  

Content Test Prep: online, self-paced content prep course(s) accessible upon completion of Orientation  

Content Testing: approval to register for Content Exam upon completion of Content Prep course and practice test, if applicable  

Field Based Experience: combination of classroom observation, video observation, and classroom experience, if applicable, due by 90th instructional day of Internship   

Pre-Service Training: online, self-paced coursework available Spring 2026; due September 8th   

Part 3  

In-Service Training: combination of online, self-paced coursework and live classes, September 2026 through May 2027  

  • CTE and Secondary candidates within the Region 13 service area have the option to attend classes in person or via Zoom. All others will attend live classes via Zoom.  

Internship: begins on first instructional day of teaching assignment, if all requirements have been met  

  • Requirements include applicable Content Testing based on certification area and required components of Pre-Service training  

Recommendation for Standard Certificate: upon completion of all testing, coursework, and Internship requirements; no sooner than June 2027  

Program Extension, if needed
